Windows 8 - The Latest Facts and Rumours

As we're now falling into the period of less than a year to Windows 8, we thought it would be a good idea to catch up on all the spill that's been coming out over the past 12 months.  With Microsoft's latest incarnation of it's Windows operating system slated for a 2012 release, despite many business users still stuck on a Windows XP operating system and home users bearing with Vista, there has been a mountain of rumor and conjecture around features of the new operating system.  Let's catch up on some of the newest:

  • Windows 8 RC will release around April 2012
  • Windows 8 will have the same system requirements as Windows 7
  • Windows 8 will use the same ribbon UI as Office
  • Windows 8 will include a similar level of help and support as Windows XP
  • Windows 8 will feature and improved Task Manager

As tempting as it is to want to up some great screen shots of the new operating system we took the opinion that it just isn't worth it.  With the operating system over a year away the likely hood of any images changes is high and the images that are flying around on the net are either pretty poor, un-skinned, or just at such an early stage of development they're not worth looking at.

We'll give it another 6 months and see if there's anything worth writing about then.
