Check out the image of what is believe to be the HTC Desire 2. Whilst it's clear to see there's no track-pad, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a front-facing camera, not much else can be made from the image.

I suppose we'll just have to wait until next month to get the details.

4G In Uk Years Away Says O2

O2 has told TechRadar that a 4G network for the UK is still years rather than months away.

Some parts of the USA and China are already enjoying 4G data and the ability to download high-def video the UK is years behind.

A spokesperson for O2 went on to say: "We're not in a position to outline timing detail on 4G,"..."Our first trial in Slough was very successful, and we'll be running more trials over the next 12 months. But we're looking at years rather than months before we'll have a commercial 4G network in the UK."

Nexus S Gets a splash of colour - Nexus S White

Pictures of the Nexus S bearing a new white rear have appeared in the wild. Just as with the Galaxy S before it, it appears Samsung have felt the need to give the S a splash or colour leaving the front with the standard dark colours and making the back white.

No Blur For Motorola Xoom

In a statement released by Motorola it has been announced the Motorola Xoom will not come with MotoBlur. Instead, the tablet will be a pure Google device running Android Honeycomb (OS 3.0).

Speaking to AndroidGuys Motorola's spokesman said: "To clarify, Motorola Xoom is a Google Experience Device and the first tablet to incorporate Android 3.0 Honeycomb."..."As such, Motorola Mobility has worked closely with Google to develop and optimize the Honeycomb OS on XOOM, and has no plans to customize the software with MotoBlur."

HTC 7 Pro Tariffs Show Up On Vodafone

Nexus S Price Drop - More Realistic

The Nexus S was launched on the 6th December 2010 and was available for around the £550 mark - sim free of course. Since then the mobiles price has dropped considerably to a more realistic £429.99 - still from The Carphone Warehouse.

So what's the reason for the sudden drop in price? Well, there's a good chance given the amount of competition coming this year outlets are dropping the price rather than have older models sitting on the shelves or perhaps people just aren't interested in the Nexus S. Whatever the reason I have to say the new price makes the Nexus S a much more attractive gadget.

Motorola Xoom Pricing and Specs

Pricing information on the Motorola Xoom has finally turned up. It looks likely that the Xoom will cost upwards of £700.

No Android Honeycomb For Mobiles

Google's Android 3.0 OS, codenamed Honeycomb, may never come to smartphones.

Rumors have been rife regarding the next Android OS release, entitled Honeycomb but when asked by Techradar if the new OS would make it to mobiles, David Burke, Director of Engineering replied: "Right now it's a tablet operating system".

However it was also said that in the future Google would like to unite the numbers system..."I think that coming together is a good idea. What we're trying to do here is make a base platform that's so good, that others only need to add native elements in their core areas".

Long Awaited Android Text Bug - Fixed!

Nexus One users should be receiving a small update OTA over the next few days. The update will take the versions from Android 2.2.1 (version FRG83D) to the FRG83G build of Android 2.2.2.

This update will resolve a few bugs, one of which is the long awaited fix to the text-to-random-recipient bug where the phone will send random texts to a random contact or contacts. Many have fallen foul to this bug, sending texts to co-workers/bosses/partners.

The file is sitting at Google servers for those who can't wait otherwise expect a roll out in the next few days.

Blackberry Torch White Coming Soon!!!

The Vodafone website is running adverts showing the BlackBerry Torch White coming soon, although no pre-order for this edition of the phone has been started yet.

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 offers a sliding Qwerty keyboard with a super-responsive capacitive touchscreen. Other features included with BlackBerry Torch are a 5-megapixel camera, 624MHz processor, BlackBerry OS 6 and all the mobile internet connectivity options a smartphone user could ask for (except for 4G, which would be useless in the UK anyway). The white addition is seen by many as a swipe at Apple.

BlackBerry Torch White will be available for Pay monthly plan users only. No plans and pricing details are out yet, as soon as we know it'll be up here.

It also sports a slide-and-tilt 3.6-inch 800 x 480 display that reveals a landscape QWERTY keyboard underneath - the tilting part a first for WP7.

The Tablet Effect - PC Sales Down

In a study released on Wednesday, IDC reports worldwide PC shipments were slower than expected during the fourth quarter of 2010, influenced by competition from tablets and a slowdown in consumer spending.

PC shipments worldwide were 92.1 million units during the fourth quarter, growing by only 2.7 percent compared to the same quarter in 2009, IDC said. Growth had originally been projected at 5.5%.

The popularity of tablets like Apple's iPad has hurt the demand for PCs, said David Daoud, research director at IDC, in a statement. A new wave of tablets will hit the market this year, which could continue to hurt the PC market.

Daoud commented "Consumers are spending less than they used to," plus, devices like tablets are competing for consumer dollars.

HP retained its position as the top worldwide PC maker, though shipments fell by 0.9 percent in the fourth quarter. The company shipped around 18 million PCs during the fourth quarter, giving it a 19.5 percent market share. Dell was the second-largest PC vendor, shipping 11.14 million units, growing year over year by 4.2 percent. That gave Dell a 12.1 percent market share. Acer was in third place, closely followed by Lenovo, whose shipments went up by 21.1 percent to 9.5 million units. Toshiba, in fifth place, saw 12.1 percent growth in PC shipments during the fourth quarter.

Motorola Xoom Unveiled

The new Android based Motorola Xoom tablet was announced at CES 2011 this week. Packed with a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, much like many of the new tech coming out in the next few months it also features a 10.1-inch 1280x800 resolution screen.

The Xoom also comes complete with a forward facing 2Mp camera and a rear facing 5MP camera capable of recording 720P HD video. In terms of memory, you'll get 32GB on-board as well as support for SD.

In terms of networking, this tablet will be 3G and 802.11n capable and will come with the usual stock of Google apps all wrapped up in Android Honeycomb!!!

There's no doubt, the way this year has kicked off, it's definitely going to be the year of the tablet although we might be waiting a while for the Xoom as there's no UK release date as yet.

Motorola Atrix 4G

The Motorola Atrix is the front-runner of the companies Android mobiles. As smartphones become more and more powerful the Atrix is leading the way. Capable of converting into a netbook, sat-nav or media center the Atrix is not short of tricks.

The smartphone comes complete with Android Froyo and sports added extras such as fingerprint reader (as opposed to the swipy finger security screen) and a 960x540 pixel 4-inch sreen touted by Motorola as qHD.

The most exciting thing about this phone is not the looks, or features, it's all about the power. The Atrix runs a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor. The Atrix also carries double the ram found in most standard smartphones, 1GHz as well as 802.11n and HSDPA network capabilities for speedy downloading over WiFi and 3G.

Verdict: It has been said the Atrix is the 'do-it-all' mobile solution but we're not convinced. If you expect to get what you pay for then you could be parting with a pretty penny for the Atrix for many features you may never use.

Google Nexus S Review

As an avid fan of the Nexus One, despite it being billed by many as a 'mistake', I was keen to see the Nexus S to see how it compared to the One. For starters, Google have made a good move opting to distribute the phone through stores rather than direct from them. Importing my Nexus from the US was expensive and I believe there should have been easier methods of purchasing the phone outside the states. Never-the-less, the Nexus S is on sale at The Carphone Warehouse in the UK.

The Nexus S boasts a 1GHz Hummingbird CPU, 512MB of RAM, a 4-inch, 800 x 480 curved Super AMOLED display (aka the Contour Display), 16GB of storage, a 5 megapixel rear and VGA front-facing camera, and near field communication capabilities with the biggest news about the S being that the phone runs the latest version of the Android OS, Gingerbread which comes with a host of updates as well as re-vamped UI!!!

Compared to the Nexus One, the Nexus S hardware is pretty similar both featuring a 1GHz processor. The Nexus S features a 1GHz Cortex A8 (Hummingbird) processor while the Nexus One features a 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD 8250 Snapdragon. The S is limited in the storage stakes shipping with 16GB internal memory with no expansion. The One shipped with an 8GB microSD which of course could be upgraded, something which wont be possible on the S.

The S features a 5.0 megapixel camera complete with flash (as did the one) however the S also sports a front facing camera for video chat. Other than that the devices are pretty similar. The real question is....Would I trade my $500 Nexus One for a (£)550 Nexus S....the answer, no I wouldn't. I don't see the S as a large enough jump in tech to justify the £200 price increase but then I suppose that's what happens when UK distributors get hold of an export.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 to Debut at CES2011

Good News for Samsung Galaxy Tab lovers out there. The Galaxy Tab 2 is expected to debut at CES2011 according to http://www.koreatimes.co.kr.

"Samsung was one of the few companies other than Apple to generate noise in the tablet market this year, after selling more than 1.2 million of its Galaxy Tab devices. Samsung is expected to reveal the newer version of its Galaxy Tab at the CES, as it looks to exploit a global tablet market that will reach 50 million units in 2011, from 15 million this year, according to the estimations by technology research firm Gartner."

News on iPad2

Taiwansese publication Digitimes revealed that three manufacturers were preparing to start production soon on components for the new iPad.

They said the companies all make printed circuit boards and would start shipping them in December also production would increase in February 2011.

The latest insider information came from Digitimes once again. According to their story, the insider at Foxconn said that their plants have been asked to produce between 400,000 and 600,000 units, shipping next February. That would suggest a release date of late February, March or April in the US - and probably the summer for the rest of the world.

Digitimes is a Taiwanese publication that covers Asia's technology industry, and is a pretty reliable source of information about Apple's many suppliers in the region.
